Video preview of Supreme Court arguments for and against HCR
![]() Healthcare Reform Law Debated Former U.S. Solicitor Generals Neal Katyal and Paul Clement faced off for the second time on the new health care reform law at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. They previewed next month’s Supreme Court oral argument focusing on the individual mandate and if it’s constitutional for the federal government to mandate that Americans buy health insurance. Paul Clement and Neal Katyal argued on opposite sides of the health care law before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta last year. Clement, representing 26 states against the Affordable Care Act, won his case. The Court ruled 2 to 1 that the part of law requiring the purchase of insurance was an unconstitutional exercise of congressional power. SCOTUSblog and Bloomberg Law hosted. At link, video is in the right-hand column of the page. ---------------------- This is a wonk-heavy, but fascinating, preview of the arguments that will be offered before the Supreme Court, starting today. Note that "W"'s nightmare legacy continues - Paul Clement, who will be arguing the side of throwing millions off health insurance and restoring the right of insurance companies to resume their abuses, was the U.S. Solicitor General under Bush 2004-2008. |
