Harris campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon released a memo last Sunday stating that the overall total raised by the Democratic National Committee and the Harris for President group together with other joint fundraising committees, has reached $540 million. She added that even before VP Kamala Harris made her acceptance speech last Thursday, the amount had already crossed the $500 million mark.
The memo stated that the fundraising campaigns for VP Harris has grown effortlessly ever since Pres. Biden withdrew his bid for reelection and endorsed her as his replacement. Since July 21, 2024 grassroots donations have been pouring in, to support Harris’ campaign in the battle against Trump’s own reelection bid to regain power as 47th president of the US.
In comparison, Trump’s fundraising campaign as of July which stood at $138.7 million was immediately outpaced and outnumbered. While Trump’s campaign team continued to send emails asking for financial support, reports have it that the fund reached only $327 million after the conclusion of the Republican National Convention.
Supporters and Undecided Voters Not Happy with JD Vance as Trump’s VP Running Mate
Reports have it that the lacklustre response to Trump’s appeal for donation contributions, stemmed from his decision of choosing JD Vance, a former Trump-hater, as his Vice President. Apparently, undecided MAGA supporters and voters withdrew their support for Trump; especially after Kamala Harris announced that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will join her as the Vice Presidential running mate
O’Malley Dillon’s report also stated that about a third of the contributions raised during the DNC event came from first-time donors; ⅔ of which were women voters and young voters.
The Harris campaign saw a surge not only in campaign funds but also in the number of people who volunteered their support for VP Harris. During the DNC convention week, nearly 200,000 supporters signed up to help the Harris-Walz team in their 2024 election campaign.
